Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Your Retirement Plan (MCP Connector)

RetirePlanAI's MCP connector (built on the Model Context Protocol) lets Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI clients securely read your retirement plan and financial data — so you can ask questions about your own numbers in plain language, right inside the AI tool you already use.

What is the MCP connector?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI clients connect to outside data sources. RetirePlanAI's MCP connector is a read-only bridge between your retirement plan and the AI client of your choice — Claude, ChatGPT, and others — so the AI can read your live financial data and answer questions about it. It never runs RetirePlanAI's own AI, and it can't change your plan.

What you can ask

“What's my Monte Carlo success rate?”
“What's my current net worth and how is it allocated?”
“What's my retirement readiness score, and what's dragging it down?”

The AI answers using your data, but the thinking happens in your AI client — RetirePlanAI just supplies read-only figures on request.

Requirements

  • A paid RetirePlanAI plan (the connector isn't available on the free tier).
  • An AI client that supports custom MCP connectors — e.g. Claude (web & desktop), ChatGPT, or Claude Code.

Connect your AI client

In your AI client, add a custom connector using this URL:

https://mcp.retireplanai.com/mcp

The steps are the same everywhere:

  1. Open your client's Connectors / custom MCP settings and paste the URL above.
  2. The client sends you to RetirePlanAI sign-in.
  3. Review and approve the consent screen (it shows exactly what's shared).
  4. Done — no tokens or keys to copy. Start asking about your plan.

Where's the connector setting?

Claude (web/desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. ChatGPT: Settings → Connectors → add an MCP server. Claude Code: add the URL as a remote MCP server per the client's docs.

Which scenario does it use?

If you've built what-if scenarios, the connector reads the one you've set as your primary scenario. To choose it, open the Scenarios page and click the star ("Make Primary") icon on the scenario you want — it will then show a green Primary badge. If you haven't set a primary, the connector uses your default plan.

Note: the scenario switcher in the top bar is a temporary, per-browser selection and does not change what the connector reads — only the primary scenario does.

Read-only, for now

Today the connector is read-only — an AI client can view your plan but can't change anything. A write mode (for AI-assisted edits) may come later, and would ask for its own, separate permission.

Rate limits

To keep things fast and fair, reads are capped per day, with a tighter sub-limit on compute-heavy tools (Monte Carlo and full projections):

Reads / dayHeavy tools / day
100050

Limits reset at midnight UTC. If you hit one, the client shows a message and you can try again later.

Security & privacy

Your data leaves RetirePlanAI when you connect. Whatever the AI client reads is sent to that provider (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI) and handled under their terms — not ours. Only connect clients you trust.
  • Connections use OAuth 2.1 with PKCE — you sign in on RetirePlanAI; no passwords or keys are shared with the AI client.
  • Access is read-only and scoped to your own plan.
  • Revoke any time from Settings → Connected AI apps.

Troubleshooting

Sign-in or consent fails

Make sure you're signed in to RetirePlanAI in the same browser, then retry the connect flow from your AI client.

“Daily limit reached”

You've hit your plan's read cap (or the heavy-tool sub-limit) for the day. It resets at midnight UTC.

Access suddenly stopped

The connector requires an active paid plan. If your plan lapsed or downgraded to free, access stops until you're on a paid plan again.

Does this use my AI conversation quota or cost extra?

No. The connector doesn't run RetirePlanAI's own AI — the inference happens in your AI client, and it doesn't touch your in-app coach conversation limit.

Ready to connect?

The MCP connector is included with any paid plan. See pricing, or explore the built-in AI Retirement Coach if you'd rather chat about your plan without connecting an outside AI client.
